Joel Schoenfeld is a partner with the firm Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp with expertise in licensing and protecting digital rights globally and negotiating and drafting various music industry label, artist, publishing and songwriter contracts. He also is focused on all aspects of the global music and new media industries especially international intellectual property; mergers and acquisitions.
Based in New York, Mr. Schoenfeld represented a major music publisher in complex acquisition agreements, a major record label on digital and copyright issues, online entertainment companies in acquisition and intellectual property and cable television networks in transactional matters. He works with venture capital funds, investment banks as well as start-up web sites and app developers. Mr. Schoenfeld has previously held the position of General Counsel at eMusic.com, BMG Entertainment, Recording Industry Association of America and Dimensional Associates where he was also Chief Legal Officer.
A frequent speaker on the topics of Copyright Assets, Bankruptcy and Royalty Accounting, Mr. Schoenfeld is also an adjunct professor at New York Law School. He graduated from Syracuse University and New York Law School.
